Dr Tess Cafferty
-
MBBS
Registered London 1985
DRCOG Registered London 1988
I have been
working in the medical profession
for over twenty years.
My initial
training was completed in 1985 at
Cambridge University and at the
Royal London Hospital. After
completing my training as a GP I
gained experience in a township
clinic in South Africa, working
there for a period of two years.
I returned to the
UK to become a partner in a North
London Practice. I left the London
practice in 2002 to come to Norfolk
where I joined the Unthank Road
Practice prior to it merging to form
the St Stephen's Gate Medical
Practice.
My
special interest is women's health,
and more recently, in the training
of students who are coming into the
medical profession. I have
taken the opportunity to teach and
train Year 3 students from the UEA
at the practice for one day per
week.

MB ChB
Registered Aberdeen 1979
DRCOG Registered Aberdeen 1982
I was born and
brought up in North East Scotland,
went to my local University and
graduated from Aberdeen in July
1979. I completed my
pre-registration year in Falkirk
General. My plans to return north
changed and on a whim decided to
head to foreign parts (i.e.
England). Based on a friend's
recommendations I sought a post in
Ipswich in 1980. (I met him many
years later and he denies this
strongly - apparently. I misheard
him at the time!!) However I
thoroughly enjoyed it. I joined the
three year GP training rotation here
in Norwich completing spells in ENT,
Obstetrics and finally psychiatry. I
joined Dr Day at Unthank Road
Practice in January 1985.
In 1994 I pursued
an interest in acupuncture and
completed initial training in this -
since than I have continued this
work albeit limiting it to upper
body/head/neck areas. In 1996 my
Manager, Bryan Oldman, and myself
set up the Norwich GP out of hours
coop - NORDOC - both of us stood
down three years later.
Within the
practice I take the lead on
prompting and stimulating new ideas
and then following them through. My
particular clinical area of interest
is diabetes and mental health; I was
involved in the appointment of
Mental Health Link Workers within
the city.
