We have a large team of clinicians to look after all aspects of your health. We have GPs, Nurse Practitioners who can prescribe, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and a Prescribing Pharmacist.

We offer appointments between 7.30am and 7pm (not all days) and Saturday mornings. Routine appointments are usually available within 10 working days.

For same day appointments, ring 01603 228686 where your call will be handled by a fully trained receptionist who will offer you an appointment with the most appropriate health care professional. You may be seen by a Nurse Practitioner, put on a call back list or given a same-day appointment.

OUR NURSES WILL SEE YOU FOR:-  CHESTY COUGH/INFECTION ** SEVERE SORE THROATS ** INSECT BITES  ** EARACHE ** TEMPERATURES ** HAY FEVER ** SKIN RASHES etc

If you would like to register with the Practice and you live within our Catchment Area please call in to the St Stephens Gate site on Wessex Street to collect a registration form.  We cannot retain your registration if your new address is outside this area, even if your old one was also outside.

Non Urgent calls (Routine appointments, follow ups, test results etc): Please call after 11am to avoid peak times. For an ongoing issue, please ask for an appointment with the clinician who has been looking after you. This may be a face to face or telephone appointment. Please also see our section on Fit For Work Notes on our website.

If you are going to be late, please note that if it is more than 5 minutes you may not be seen. Please plan your journey as we are in the city centre. Please cancel if you do not need it. You may be squeezed in briefly but this is not guaranteed. If you miss appointments repeatedly, we will place you on a register requiring advance confirmation.

When requesting repeat medication, please use our online service (ask at Reception to register), by written request or by arrangement with your chosen pharmacy.  We do NOT accept telephone requests. If you appear to have run out of issues, or wish a non-repeat medication you have had before, request as normal. Our Pharmacist is available on Mondays or Tuesdays.

If you have a blood, urine or other test taken by the practice, please phone the surgery after 11am for results. Blood and urine test results are usually available after 2 days, while X-rays and scans can take 1-2 weeks. If there is an abnormal result that needs further tests, an appointment, or treatment our reception staff will contact you. But please still call to check the test results have been returned, even if you don’t hear from us.  The Duty Doctor is not available to discuss non urgent test results.

Home visits are only available to housebound patients, and those whose illness is so severe to prevent travel to the surgery. Please request visits before 10am.  Visit requests are reviewed by the Duty Team and you may receive a call to discuss. Transport issues is not a reason for a Home Visit. 

If you are referred to the hospital you will get a letter within 14-21 days to arrange an appointment

If you are under the care of the hospital and need further information about your care, results or appointments please telephone the hospital and ask to speak to the Secretary for your Consultant Specialty. DO NOT CALL the surgery as the hospital will tell you directly about appointments, test results and further plans for your care and we do not have access to this information.

Letters, reports and insurance/legal matters are NOT an NHS service and there is a charge to backfill the lost time on these. Please see our website or ask at reception for list of charges.

Patient Participation Group

We are always keen to welcome patients to join our Patient Participation Group. It is a friendly group that helps shape and inform the development of patient services. We are particularly keen to hear from young people and people at work, and can tailor our meetings to suit your needs.

Access

We are situated very close to public transport stops on St Stephens Street and the bus station on Surrey Street. There is limited free underground parking available on site and you can also have your Chapelfield parking ticket validated at reception if your stay is under 1 hour.

Named accountable GP

All patients in the surgery are able so see the GP of their choice but each patient has a named accountable GP on their clinical record.  If you wish to know who your named GP is please ask at reception.
